Munich draws crowds year-round to its historic centre, so timing matters more than people expect. Between May and September, mornings between 6 and 7am give you empty streets and soft light — by mid-morning, popular spots fill up fast. In autumn and winter, an 8-10am start works well without the early wake-up call.
Sunset sessions are beautiful but come with a trade-off: more tourists in the background. For that golden evening light anyway, the areas around St. Peter's Church and the Frauenkirche give some of the best panoramic views in the city.
