Impressed by the movie "Letters to Juliet" I decided to visit the place and check it personally!
Due to W. Shakespeare Verona has became popular world –wide, but this city is interesting regardless his famous play. Well-preserved old downtown of Verona is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
By the way, you can walk around the city within one day!
It is also convenient to start your trip around Italy from Verona as it has direct air connection, unlike Venice.
The entrance to the majority of museums and cathedrals of Verona is not for free, but if you purchase Verona card you will get free entrance to some of them and some of them will give you good discounts for tickets.
Photographer in Verona
If you have an idea of having photo shoot in Verona you can get see all the details on this page.
What to see in Verona in one day
1. If you have arrived here by train a slow 10-15 min walk will take you from the railway station Porta Nuova, to the central square Piazza Bra with two big arches Portoni de la Bra at the entrance.
These gates were put during Ancient Rome and formed a part of the fortress wall.
Piazza Bra is a perfect place to start your city tour - plenty of restaurants and cafes facing the square are serving excellent coffee and Aperole, galatetia at the arches offer wonderful Italian ice-cream with free flavors degustation, while the architecture of the Verona Arena and St. Nicolas all'Arena church, right here in the square, create the feeling that you are in Italy!
2. The art lovers should go from here directly to the Museum - Lapidariy Museum Maffeiano located right behind the corner. It displays antique art works discovered during the excavations in the city and around it. Even itself the museum is a historical monument of the 18th century. As the Italians don’t like to overload themselves with work the museum is open only half a day: from 8:30 a.m. till 2 p.m.
3. And in case you are a looking for good shopping the main shopping street via Giuseppe Mazzini, adjacent to Piazza Bra, is waiting for you with its Gucci, Montblanc, LV, D&G, Bulgary boutiques. It is a real paradise for brand lovers and not only!
4. The street Giuseppe Mazzini will bring you to the "Juliette's House”. Once in Verona you should not miss out to see the site related to the famous Shakespeare's immortal story of love.
The address of Juliette's House:
Via Cappello, 23, 37121 Verona
Working hours:
Tue- Sun -from 8:30 a. m. to 7:30 p. m.
Mon - from 3:30 p. m. to 7:30 p. m.
The entrance fee is 6 EUR. And the Juliet's statue is located in the courtyard where everybody is allowed for free.
I advise visiting Juliette's House around 8:30 a. m., when they open the gates into the courtyard and you will be just one of few tourists at such an early hour. The crowd of people trying to hold Juliet's right breast during the day will make it less enjoyable.
5. Further, you have to make your way to the square of herbs or Piazza delle Erbe. It was the former Market's place and is left just as memory nowadays. Nevertheless, the square features lots of beautiful architectural buildings of the Middle Ages and is really worth seeing. By the way, not far away from here you can find the tower Torre dei Lamberti that offers a wonderful panorama of the entire city.
6. From Verona downtown area it is worth to have a walk to the bridge Ponte Scaligero. The bridge dates to 1355 and connects the left side of the river Adige and the castle Castelvechhio that also houses the city museum Castelvechhio.
Open hours: 8:30 a.m. to 7 p. m.
Entry fees: 6 EUR for adults, 1 EUR for kids, free for Verona card holders.
The entrance to the bridge Scaligero is free.
7. You can dine at the square Dante in the excellent restaurant "Caffe Dante Bistrot" that offers excellent vine card, exquisite meat dishes and one of the best Tiramisu in the city!
This place is really worth dropping in if you happened to be around there! Besides, you can also enjoy the play of the street musicians there, so that Verona will turn into the best memories of Italian hospitality.
