I started exploring the island of Malta from its capital, Valletta.
By the way, Valletta is also the cultural capital of Europe 2018.
Valletta has a quite significant historical value. It is, actually, an architectural monument, a city of the Mediterranean island state that was surrounded by a wall by the Roman Catholic Order in the 14th century.

What to see in Valletta
The Triton Fountain, located at the city gate in St. Publius Square, is a model of beauty and light.
The City Gate is a UNESCO World Heritage site, a real architectural monument, a combination of the medieval Catholic classicism and antique mysteriousness.
The Parliament building strikes the imagination with its scale, simplicity of geometric shapes and amazing medieval interior design inside.
St. John's Co-cathedral, the co-cathedral of the Archdiocese of Malta, built by the knights in the late 16th century, is an amazing building with magnificently painted walls inside and bold architectural solutions.
The Grand Master's Palace of the Order of Malta was built at the end of the 16th century for the best chess masters. Today this masterpiece of the late Middle Ages is the official residence of the president.
The Upper Barrakka Gardens is an amazing park decorated with antique arches and exotic plants, from where you can admire the panoramic views of the Great Harbor.
Hasting Gardens is a wonderful cool and peaceful place, though it is just few steps from the center.
St. James Cavalier Center for Creativity is a magnificent, exquisite building, both in terms of architecture and its interior design. It houses a big opera hall that I just incomparable.
Where to dine in Valletta
While walking around Valletta, you can rest for a while with a glass of wine at the Trabuxu Wine Bar at 2 Strait Street Valletta, a very inviting, pleasant and cozy place. Here you can just sit and enjoy the atmosphere for hours. It has a fantastic choice of exclusive cheeses, oysters and pâtés.
For lunch, you can go to Marina Club VW Restaurant on Vault 16, Valletta. The restaurant is located in a very picturesque place on the seaside perfect for a romantic dinner. Amazing cocktails, an excellent wine list, exquisite dishes – it has all that is needed for a wonderful holiday!
If, after visiting Valletta, you are heading, for example, to Mdina, then, along your way, I recommend that you have a bite at Danny's Cafe on Mriehel Bypass, Ħal Qormi. This excellent place, something between a cozy cafe and a Mediterranean restaurant, offers the cuisine and drinks for every taste. Its interior space conveys the atmosphere of Malta in some corners and in some other corners it has a real futuristic high-tech design.
