Moscow's historic centre draws crowds year-round, so timing matters more than people expect. Between May and September, mornings between 6 and 7am give you empty streets around Red Square and Nikolskaya Street — by mid-morning, popular spots fill up fast. In autumn and winter, an 8-10am start works well without the early wake-up call.
Sunset sessions are beautiful but come with a trade-off: more tourists in the background. For golden evening light anyway, Manezhnaya Square and the GUM façade give some of the best light in the city.
