Leeds Bradford Airport is mainly operated by low-cost airlines, so this city can be a convenient starting point for the route: Manchester-Liverpool-Lake District-Glasgow-Edinburgh.

There are no direct flights from Russia to Leeds. You can get to Leeds from Manchester within a couple of hours y bus or by a low-cost airline from Europe.

What to see in Leeds

Leeds is a very cultural city, the purity of English language here is much higher, than in London (which is full of immigrants and tourists) and incomparably higher, than in any city of US. That is why this wonderful and cozy city is ideal for everyone, who wants not only to stay in the city with the model British peacefulness, but also to improve their English skills, as I did, when I have chosen the CES language school in Leeds.

The sites of Leeds

The cultural and historical significance of Leeds is not accidental, as the city is over 1 000 years old. In 1086 it was mentioned in the list of "Domesday Book" and it received the status of a market town in 1207.

It was in Leeds Kirkgate Market, where the first Marks & Spencer store opened in 1884, which, by the way, is here till now.

More than a century ago, Michael Marks, a Jewish immigrant from Belarus, opened his stall at Kirkgate Market in Leeds with the slogan "Don't ask the price, it's a penny". And despite the fact that the Marks & Spencer stores now look very different, this stall still exists today.

travel route

The city was deeply involved in the medieval reforms, the adoption and development of Catholicism and this influenced a lot the architectural style of all the buildings in Leeds. Before the World War II, Leeds was a major industrial city, but after the war it lost this status and became a quiet corner of Britain, ideal to live in.

There are two main squares — the City Square, located in front of  the Railway Station (with the old gas lamps in the form of bronze nymphs) and the Millennium Square (the venue of concerts, ice skating, etc.)

The symbol of the city is two owls and they can be seen as decoration elements almost everywhere.

The list of key attractions:

1. Oakwell Hall and Country Park

2. Bramham Park

3. The Hepworth Wakefield Art Gallery, in the building of amazing constructivist architectural style

4. An amazing Salt Mill Art Gallery

5. A tropical park, Tropical World Leeds

6. A huge park, Roundhay Park

7. Kirkstall Abbey, in 15 min bus ride from the city centre. These ruins of the medieval building literally immerse you in very, very old times.

8. Golden Acre Park. This wonderful park is only in 20-30 minutes distance from the city.

And as for shopping in Leeds, all the brand stores and major shopping centers are located on Headrow and Briggate streets.
