A visit to Berlin for a weekend or, at least for a day, is a great idea!
And in case you have a long flight connection at Berlin Airport, it would be wonderful to spend this time looking around the city.
Buy a day pass at the airport for € 7.70 (ABC zones), jump in the train in the airport and you will be in the city center in 40 minutes!
If you are planning a dedicated visit, you will not need more, than two days for sightseeing in Berlin and one more day for shopping at Berlin Outlet, where you can find excellent clothes with big discounts.

What to see in Berlin
Most people cannot imagine a visit to Berlin without seeing Reichstag (it is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.). But, please, note, that to be allowed there, you need to bring your passport and pre-register on the Bundestag website.
Also, by all means, have a walk around Alexanderplatz, one of the most famous squares in the city. By the way, it was named after the Russian Emperor Alexander II.
On Alexanderplatz, there is a TV tower, where you can climb to the observation deck. And there are also Neptune Fountain and many other interesting objects in this square.
Don’t miss out from your route the Botanical Garden of Berlin, founded in XVII century. It is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., but you need to confirm the exact time in advance, as it may change depending on holidays, the time of the year and some special events.
My favorite place in Berlin is the historic market square (Gendarmenmarkt), with the Concert Hall and Schiller’s monument in the middle, and two magnificent cathedrals, German and French, from both sides.
Besides that, you have to see the symbol of the city, the Brandenburg Gate.
I should mention the island of museums as well!
In addition to the five magnificent museums (the Bode Museum, the Pergamon, the Old National Gallery, the New Museum, the Old Museum), there is also Berlin Cathedral with the tomb of the Hohenzollerns.
Opening hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Berlin Wall is also an attraction for many tourists. Of course, it was completely destroyed, with the exception of a small section 1.3 km long, but now it has been reconstructed as historical evidence and tourist attraction.
But my own attention was drawn by an unusual wall of the Berlin State Library Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, established in 1661 on the initiative of the Brandenburg Elector Frederik William, and later, it was renamed as the Royal Library and then, as the Prussian State Library.
Unusual landmarks of Berlin
Not all the sights of Berlin are widely known. For example, there is the Museum of Things, which is dedicated to the material culture. Open hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
You can also use an opportunity to rest in the Gardens of Peace in Marzana, which is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. It has a Chinese corner and a lot of fountains, and it is a great option for spending time with family.
The Arminius Markthalle is another interesting attraction. This market has been working for already two centuries and sells plenty of delicious and rare things. You will see just few tourists there.
For a nice walk, Treptov Park with great view on the river is a very good option. Here, you can relax after your intensive tour around Berlin.
